Open-Built® — Theory

Open-Built® theoryAt the heart of Open-Built® is a unique concept known as Open Building. In traditional building, houses are constructed in a tangle of wires, ducting, piping, framing, sheathing, and other items. Open Building disentangles all of these into separate systems. Framing is distinct from sheathing and roofing; wiring, piping, and ducting run through chases; and everything is organized and planned in a way that allows subsystems to be constructed off site in a controlled environment. Disentanglement allows for better design, better execution, and better results in virtually every aspect of the building process. Bensonwood is proud to be the only design/builder utilizing the Open Building process in America. This innovation is one of the reasons we were awarded the 2006 Small Builder of the Year award by HUD's Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing.
