Bensonwood's Engineers

Our on-staff engineers work closely with our designers and architects to ensure that your home is engineered to Bensonwood's high standards.

Engineering starts with the foundation plan. Unlike a traditionally framed house, in which building loads are evenly transferred to the foundation through hundreds of closely-spaced wood studs, a timberframe exerts loads on its foundation through as few as twelve to sixteen principal posts in a medium to large home.

Our engineers will make sure that your foundation is designed to the overall high standards and unique structural considerations that a timberframe home demands.

Our engineers will also calculate the span and the static and snow loads of your home, then size the timbers accordingly. From there, they will work in concert with Bensonwood designers to create the proper aesthetic in the frame, as well as the joinery details.
