AIA NH Forum Winter Edition

The winter edition of the AIA NH Forum features the Catherine Houghton Arts Center, on which we collaborated with Ruhl Walker Architects. The project, located in Bethlehem, NH, serves both the White Mountain School and the greater community. Bensonwood served as the engineer and the general contractor for the project. The article notes that the building’s “most striking feature is a massive 50-foot engineered timber curtainwall on the north facade, designed to bathe the four studios in diffused natural light.”

Massive, indeed. The glue laminated black spruce curtain wall was cut and assembled in Bensonwood’s Walpole facility to ensure a perfect fit with the rest of the structure and the high performance windows. It was then disassembled, shipped to the site, and reassembled. The entire curtain wall was then raised in one, graceful, pick.
