Falmouth Pavilion
Falmouth, Maine

Description
Built for the Maine Outdoor Learning Initiative on Mackworth Island in Falmouth, Maine, this timber frame pavilion provides a durable outdoor gathering space for students participating in immersive learning programs along the coast.
The structure features a 30-foot clear span with no interior posts, creating an open and flexible space for group instruction, activities, and shelter.
Framed in solid sawn Douglas fir sourced from forest salvage, the pavilion reflects both the natural setting of the island and the educational mission of the program. European spruce ceiling boards add a clean, warm finish overhead, complementing the exposed timber frame and giving the pavilion a finished interior quality while remaining true to its outdoor setting.
With a tight project timeline, our team worked quickly to move the pavilion from in-house design through engineering, fabrication, and raising. The timber frame was raised on site in one week, giving the campus a long-lasting structure to support outdoor learning for years to come.
