Bensonwood designed, fabricated, and built this certified Net Zero Energy, LEED Platinum president's house and living classroom for Unity College, America's Environmental College. Dubbed OPEN_2, this Open-Built house was developed in collaboration with MIT's House_n initiative and a year after its completion, it was recognized as the first certified Net Zero, LEED Platinum building in Maine. House_n is a Department of Architecture research group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that explores how new technologies, materials, and strategies for design can make possible dynamic, evolving places that respond to the complexities of life. Major House_n initiatives include The PlaceLab and the Open Source Building Alliance.
